What Crossroads Put in Their Admin Hallway

There’s a TV in the admin hallway at Crossroads Christian Church in Newburgh, Indiana. 

It scrolls through content all day: the Great Commission Engine, key motivators of the people their staff are trying to reach, reminders about One-awareness and One activation. Underneath it, a cabinet stocked with copies of the Intentional Churches book and Radical Alignment, For the One bracelets, a deck of One Aware cards, and a For the One hat.

It’s a staff resource center for the One More Initiative. 

And it exists because of a decision the Crossroads leadership team made before they ever brought the initiative to their congregation: they wouldn’t ask their people to commit to something they hadn’t committed to first.

So the staff went first. They started praying for their Ones by name during bi-weekly staff prayer gatherings. They added training at monthly all-staff meetings on how to build relationships with people who don’t yet know Jesus. The resource center in the hallway was one more way to keep the mission in front of their team every day.

Phil Heller, Lead Pastor at Crossroads, said what surprised him was how much the simple act of walking past that TV changed things for him personally. One of the questions that scrolls across the screen regularly is “Have you prayed for your One today?” Even as the lead pastor, that question keeps pulling him back.

Crossroads has two other areas of the building where a significant number of staff work. They’re now building the same setup in both spaces, not because leadership decided to expand it, but because the staff in those areas asked for it.
